Web competence is a part of media capacity. Particularly for youth and children, using the computer, internet etc plays an important role in their daily lives. Growing up in a multi-medial environment demands urgently encouragement of media and internet competence, so that a reflective and sensible use can be assured.
You may find these advices very useful on how to support your child when using the computer:
- Initially, surf together with your child.
- You will find recommended sites for children in our children area.
- Restrict the time of internet use. Social contacts, sports and going outside for a nip of fresh air should not be neglected.
- The computer should not be located in the child's room; it should be located at a well frequented place in the flat.
- Your child is supposed to join monitored chats only.
- Advise your child that he/she might come across problematic sites which he/she will not understand or which might possibly cause scaring impressions.
- Internet experiences shall be reflected together.
- If your child came across problematic and youth endangering websites please advise the hotline or complaint office of FSM.
- Please try to stay updated referring to internet and its contents so you can be a tutor
