The competent use of the internet is a part of media literacy. Particularly for minors and children using a computer, the internet & co plays an important role in their daily lives. Growing up in a multi-medial environment urgently demands the encouragement of media and internet literacy, in order to ensure a reflective and sensible use of the internet.
The following hints are useful to support your child when using a computer:
- Initially, surf the internet together with your child
- You will find recommended sites for children in our children area
- Restrict the time of internet use. Social contacts, sports and snapping fresh air shouldn't be neglected
- The computer should not be located in the child's room; it should be situated at a well frequented place in the flat
- Your child is supposed to only chat in monitored chat-rooms
- Advise your child that it might come across problematic sites which he/she will not understand or which might possibly cover scaring content
- Internet experiences should be reflected together
- If you or your child come across problematical and youth endangering web sites please contact the hotline or complaint office of FSM
- Please try to stay up to date referring to internet so you can be an adept tutor
