INHOPE

inhope - a safer internet since 1999INHOPE is the umbrella association of worldwide operating internet hotlines, which process complaints referring to illegal content found on the internet.

As an effective abatement of illegal internet content is only possible through international cooperation, eight organisations - among them eco and FSM - established INHOPE in 1999.

Providers of complaint offices recognised on the one hand successful efforts of national complaint offices, but on the other hand it became evident that their influence is impaired if the content or content provider is located abroad. Therefore, INHOPE was established, supported by the "Safer Internet Action Plan" of the European Commission, in order to promote a cooperation of internet hotline providers. Meanwhile, the network includes 40 complaint offices from 35 countries and offers the opportunity to transmit complaints to the appropriate INHOPE partner. As a result, complaints can be processed in the country of origin of the respective content. The swift and reliable exchange of information beyond frontiers led to a number of busts of child porn rings.

BetweenSince May 2002 and May 2005, the lawyer Thomas Rickert has been president of INHOPE, accompanied by vice president Sabine Frank, as well CEO of the FSM. Since May 2008 Frank Ackermann, attorney at law, is member of the INHOPE board.
